Foreign Office, June 25, 1912. I AM directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith copy of a letter from Messrs. Sassoon, expressing the hope that His Majesty's Government will support a clain put forward by them to the Chinese Government on account of losses sustained through the illegal restrictions on the opium trade.
Sir E. Grey proposes to reply, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for India, that he is unable to give any general promise of support in regard to claims the nature and amount of which are unknown to him.
